While Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other conservative pundits are quick to point out that John McCain is anything but a true conservative, the rest of the country may not be so sure.

International Communications Research, Media PA found that while Democrats and Republicans may not know what to make of the Arizona Senator, they re sure on one thing John McCain is no liberal. Only 12% of Democrats and 13% of Republicans label him as liberal or very liberal.

ICR interviewed 597 respondents as part of their nationally representative bi-weekly survey and found that half of those expressing an opinion actually consider McCain conservative or very conservative when asked what political label best describes the apparent Republican presidential nominee.

According to John DeVries of ICR, these results tell us one of three things. Either the conservative talk show hosts are wrong, the country is wrong, or conservatism is being redefined.

Of those who consider themselves Democrats, half label McCain as conservative or very conservative, mirroring Republicans where 52% consider him to be conservative or very conservative. More than one-third of both parties, consider McCain to be moderate.

International Communications Research, Media, PA is a full service market research organization, founded in 1983.
